Kindle Cozy

My sweet husband surprised me with a Kindle this Christmas and even though he gave me a case for it–with a built-in reading light, brilliant in a couple of ways–I knew it needed a knitted sleeve to protect it. I carry the Kindle with me everywhere and it won’t take long ‘till it starts to get banged up from being bounced around in my purse.

I wanted the fabric knit in a tight gauge so that the piece would keep it’s shape even after lots of use, so I knit My Friend London’s hand-dyed bulky yarn (GORGEOUS! Run to her etsy shop NOW http://www.etsy.com/shop/myfriendlondon/) on size 5 (3.75 mm) needles. The flap is knit in herringbone on size 10 (6 mm), and the I-cord strap is also knit on size 5 needles.

The flap is worked in a herringbone stitch, officially “Double Stockinette, or Miniature Herringbone” from Barbara Walker’s “A Second Treasury of Knitting.” It’s a super fun stitch to knit, makes a very thick fabric, and requires big needles.
